Connect a new project
Gives the project its own file in /projects and a dashboard row, and puts its deadlines on your calendar. For a Drive folder you share with other people, turn on "Shared with others": Creative Chief also adds a project-notes folder (status board, activity log, readme) to it. Nothing that already exists is overwritten. No Gemini calls.
Deadlines (optional)
Updates
Brings your Creative Chief files up to the newest release. Each changed file is backed up to /archive first, then replaced in place (its File ID stays the same). Your own files, user-rules, memory, custom skills and everything in projects, daily and weekly are never touched. No Gemini calls.

Migrations. The app does not move these files; do each step yourself in Drive, in this order, and tick it:
Settings and setup
Stored only in this browser. Nothing is sent anywhere except Google and Gemini.
Appearance
How Creative Chief looks. A change shows straight away and is saved. With "Keep today's Main Chat the same on all my devices" on, your other devices pick it up at their next sync.
1. Gemini
Your key, and which Gemini model Creative Chief tries first. If it is busy, the next one answers; gemini-3.5-flash-lite only when both others are busy.
Before you use the free tier.Creative Chief runs on your own Gemini API key. On Google's free tier, Google may use what you send (including diary, task, calendar and email content) and Gemini's answers to improve its products, and human reviewers may read it. Google's terms say not to send sensitive, confidential or personal information on the free tier, so don't use it for anything you wouldn't want reviewed. With billing turned on (a paid key), Google doesn't use your prompts or answers to improve its products. In the EEA, Switzerland and the UK, that paid-tier rule covers the free tier too. Free limits are set by Google and can change. You must be 18 or older. Voice typing (the microphone button) uses your browser's own speech recognition; in some browsers (Chrome, for example) that sends your audio to the browser maker's servers. Use at your own risk.Google's Gemini API terms (opens in a new tab)
A column on the right with today's calendar, deadlines, task lists and auto-checks, and the week ahead, read straight from Google (no Gemini calls). In a narrow window or on a phone, open it with the Today button at the top right.
5. Save settings
Your Gemini key and Client ID are stored only in this browser's local storage. Nothing is hard-coded into this file.
First-time setup (install a release, then set up your profile)
A. Install a release (new account)
One-time setup for a brand-new account. Copies the release you were invited to into a folder of your own, as your own Google Docs. Skip this once you already have Creative Chief files.
Filled in from your invite link.
The folder shared with you by email. Its link works; you do not need to copy its ID.
Leave this blank and Creative Chief creates a folder called "Creative Chief" in your My Drive. To use a folder you made yourself, paste its link; it must be empty.
B. Set up your profile (one time, after install)
Answer these once. Nothing is written until you review and confirm, and no Gemini calls are used. Run this after the install above has finished.
Load your calendars first.
Load your task lists first.
Advanced (you can ignore this)
Google client ID
Your invite link fills this in. Paste it here only if you were given it separately.
Diagnostics (developer checks)
Checks that the app's file handling works on this account by creating and then trashing a few test Docs. Not needed for setup.
